Who is winkin’

I’ve written a fair piece. Some poems. Some stories. Some random musings… Some is good. My wife responded to my posting on Craigslist – she likes the way I write. Sometimes I’m pretty darned clever.

Creativity is a necessity for me.  Sometimes it comes out in my work.  Sometimes it is in my baking.  Sometimes I write or create some other form of art.   It’s best to share it one way or another.   This is the “another”.

MT Repetitions?

MT refers to Malformed Thoughts.   Something I figure I have pretty often.  And MT – empty – not Montana.

Repetitions.  Simply put, in anything creative (writing, drawing, painting, baking) there is a lot of repetition – usually with some modification.   If you repeat two or more different things simultaneously you have the potential of creating a magical new thing.

I may repeat:
something said or seen
phrases or syllables
images or ideas
thoughts or designs
colors or moods
grunts or desires
or all of them at once.

The world is full of repetition… patterns… and sometimes that’s the only way to make sense of things.

Influences:

If I sit and think about authors/poets that have influenced me only a few come to mind.   I think I am just as influenced by the conversations I hear in town, but these folks are worth mentioning:

Harlan Ellison – short stories, Fredric Brown – short stories,  Etheridge Knight – poems,  Sharon Shinn – SF novels and the Russians  Fyodor Dostoevsky and Vladimir Makanin.

I like HE for the point blank social commentary, FB for the plot twists, EK for the power and SS for her character and plot development.  FD is where my interest in Russian culture began.  VM for the brilliant story Anti-Leader.

Also worth noting is my extensive music habit.   My formative years were spent listening to The The, Shriekback, Bauhaus, Peter Gabriel,  Skinny Puppy, etc…

Most recent run.
